La Pucciarella

This morning, Papa watched D as Paul, Grandma, Miss M and I ventured out to find La Pucciarella, a local vineyard on the Strada del Vino – Trasimeno. We got lost on our way there, which typically would be fine, but on the steep hills with a stick shift, makes getting lost a bit interesting. Lino had recommended that we check out this vineyard in particular since he gets wine for the restaurant from there, and they are very popular with the locals.

We sampled a white and two reds, browsed their shop, and there was a steady stream of locals coming into the shop with empty glass jugs that they would fill from the spicket with a white or red of their choice. While we couldn’t take an official tour (they book in advance,) but Vincenzo, 63, took us to the first room in the wine cellar and answered some questions for us about wine production. Miss M liked seeing the big barrels…we counted 76 of them.

After the vineyard, we swung by a large supermarket which was so much fun to browse. A lot of the food is so much cheaper than what we pay at home, but then there are items like Barilla pasta where the price is the same. Biggest difference was for things like jams, oils, capers, tuna, etc. This week they were having a special on pizza topped with zucchini flowers!

We then returned to the pool for the afternoon where D enjoyed running around in the buf for the next several hours. Paul took Papa into Perugia for the afternoon, and then we met him for dinner.

We ate again at al Mangiar Bene….pizzas with sausage for Papa, salami for me, a white pizza with gorgonzola and salami for Paul, a margherita pizza for Miss M, D had pasta with oil but was too tired to eat. He only wanted cheese and sausage from our salumi plate (and at this stage will only eat sausage if we tell him it’s chingale.) Grandma tried a zucchini sformato, which was like a custard with zucchini molded in a baking dish.

Hello, what can you tell me about the original owners of the Pucciarella Winery? My husband’s family bears that name, and we married in 1998. His name is Anthony Joseph (Antonio Gieuseppi Pucciarella). We really would like to trace his heritage! Thanks so very much for any leads you can give us.
    Best Regards,
